Bringing Dark Mofo to Glenorchy

Dark Mofo was born at MONA. Yet every single event in our city happens inside MONA’s gates. Not one connects to our community venues or public spaces, nothing attracting visitors and tourists to our shops, restaurants and venues.
Meanwhile the festival travelled, Launceston hosted headline acts, Clarence had an installation at Rosny Farm, even Ulverstone had events.
Last year the festival delivered more than $67 million to Tasmania. Visitors filled restaurants, bars and accommodation in every suburb it touched. Our businesses in Moonah, Glenorchy and Claremont deserve a share of that.
We have the venues, Moonah Arts Centre, Tolosa Park sound shell, Montrose Bay foreshore plus many more spots for installations perhaps even the Council’s front lawns.
This is an opportunity and I am going after it. As Mayor I will talk with the festival organisers about bringing Dark Mofo events into Glenorchy’s venues and public spaces in 2027.
This is Glenorchy First. Speaking up with a strong voice. Backing our local businesses. Making sure our city gets its fair share.
