FOUR YEARS. FOUR PEOPLE I WANT TO THANK.

As this Council term comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting about this year & the progress we’ve made and the people who helped make it happen.

BEC THOMAS

As Mayor, Bec led the development of our Strategic Plan and Statement of Intent, helping establish who we are, what we stand for and importantly, what we wanted to be known for as a Council.

This wasn’t just about words on paper, it was about setting clear expectations, standards and a direction that would guide our decisions, our culture and the way we serve our community.

Without that foundation, I don’t believe many of this term’s achievements would have been possible.

Thank you Bec.

TONY McMULLEN

From the dark days of Council being sacked and ministerial intervention to stronger governance, sound finances and a Council moving forward.

That transformation didn’t happen by accident.

Tony has faced criticism, but without his steady, assured leadership and the hard work of our Council team, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Thank you Tony.

TWO PEOPLE I WANT TO HONOUR.

We sadly lost two colleagues during this term, Jan Dunsby and Harry Quick. Their contribution deserves to be remembered.

JAN DUNSBY

Jan was a fighter for her community. Articulate, measured, principled and an absolute warrior when it came to standing up for what was right.

She had the courage to challenge wrongdoing, the conviction to stand by her beliefs and a genuine willingness to sacrifice her time for others.

Those are qualities I deeply admire.

Thank you Jan. You made a difference.

HARRY QUICK

Harry was one of a kind. Quick witted, a straight shooter and full of stories from a lifetime of public service.

What stayed with me most was his encouragement.

Harry believed in the next generation, in progress, standing by your principles and pushing on when things got tough.

In a short time, he gave me confidence and encouragement that meant more than he probably realised.

Thank you Harry.

Four very different people, each with their own strengths, but all with something in common. A commitment to making Glenorchy better.
