GROWING MORE THAN VEGGIES. 🌱

For some people, a community garden means fresh food. For others, it’s a reason to leave the house, a familiar face, somewhere to belong, learn skills and be part of something.

That’s why the future of the Chigwell Community Garden mattered so much to me.

Bucaan Community House, its staff and volunteers had put years of care into this much loved space but sadly those activities stopped last October.

I made my position clear, I wanted Council to explore ways so this valuable community asset could remain available.

I’m proud Council stepped in. Bucaan gifted the garden assets to Council & now manages the space on behalf of our community, with weekly gardening sessions bringing people together again.

Today’s Grow It Local launch at the garden is another positive step, with Glenorchy becoming the first council in Tasmania to join the program, helping people learn to grow, share and enjoy fresh food.

Good news and worth standing up for.
