Had a crack at lawn bowls at the 'First Bowl' at Rodman Bowls Club recently alongside Bec Thomas MLC - Independent for Elwick and Andrew Wilkie MP - Independent Member for Clark . My bowling needs a bit of work, but the company was fantastic! 😂
The camaraderie, the laughs, the conversations and the connections, it's a reminder of just how important our local clubs are.
And I'm not just talking about sporting clubs.
CWA's, Garden clubs, Chess, hiking, Rotary, Lions, Men's Sheds, knitting and crochet groups, book clubs, religion, walking groups, whatever brings people together.
For many people, their club is their social battery. A reason to get out of the house, have a laugh, make friendships and feel a sense of belonging.
I want Glenorchy to be a city that values its clubs, big and small. We need to strengthen them, nurture them and make supporting them a priority.
Investing in community connection is just as important as investing in bricks, mortar and infrastructure.
Strong clubs build strong communities.
And as for my lawn bowls career? No one needs to worry just yet! 😂
